We are planning to run a historical re-fight of one of the greatest battles ever detailed in 40k history. Since a bunch of us have been inspired to dust-off the Grey Knights the battle we've chosen is the First War of Armageddon.

If you are not familiar with this particular conflict it is the story of the World Eater's Daemon Primarch Angron bringing a massive space hulk to Armageddon in search of some ancient relic. He is met by the Space Wolves and finally defeated by a full Brotherhood of Grey Knights.

Here is a basic list of the armies that we'll be looking to use on the 'main' table:
Chaos:
Imperial:

We're going to go through extraordinary lengths to make this main table as accurate as possible to the historic battle. However, if you don't have those specific armies we will be having additional tables with secondary objectives that affect the main table in some way. Maybe some other Space Marine chapters are sent to claim a reactor from some Orks in order to power a Defense Laser back on the main table. Something like that.

New: It is my goal now to do away with the second table. I am willing to stretch things a bit if we have to. Any Imperial Guard army is allowed on the main table and on either side as far as I care. If all you have are Space Marines, depending on the chapter, we will do our best to fit them on the main table. Xenos players are being encouraged to assist on one side or the other and to think of this as a scenario for a RPG instead of a free-for-all battle.

The Script

As per the historical record, the deployment procedure in this game will be very different.
  1. Deployed at the start of the game will be:
    1. Imperial: Any amount of Space Wolves, other Marines, Imperial Guard, Inquisition Forces, and Titan Legions. Dreadknight in Extermination Strike Force must be deployed at the start of the game.
    2. Chaos: Any amount of Chaos Guard, World Eaters, Titan Legions, and Daemon Princes. No more than half of the non-Monstrous daemon units.
  2. Reserves:
    1. Angron and his bodyguard of Bloodthirsters will arrive in turn 1 via Deep Strike.
    2. All other daemon units arrive via Apocalypse Reserve rules with Careful Planning.
    3. Grey Knights and other Imperial units will arrive via normal Apocalypse Reserve rules.

Rules

  1. We will be using our House Rules.
  2. Fortifications:
    1. Both sides may purchase Aegis Defense Lines with AA weaponry.
    2. No other fortifications are allowed. They will be used to balance the sides.
  3. No Warlord Traits.
  4. No Mysterious (random) Terrain. Terrain rules will be described before deployment.
  5. Victory Points & Objectives
    1. Objectives will be totalled at the start of your movement phase, so you have to survive the enemy's turn in order to claim it.
    2. Other items providing Victory Points:
      1. Slay the Warlord!: Angron (3), Draigo (2), Grimnar (2), Kharn (1)
      2. Clear the Field: Slay all models of a certain type. Bloodthirsters (2), Dreadknights & GK Dreadnoughts (2)
  6. While either Angron or the Grand Icon is on the table they grant a +1 to all Deny the Witch rolls. This means while both are active the rolls are at a 4+ instead of a 6. When one is gone the rolls are successful at a 5+.
  7. Assets
    1. Jammers: Not allowed
    2. Disruptor Beacon: Only one chance per unit arriving. Cannot be disrupted if deploying into their own deployment zone.
    3. Null Field Generator: Only one chance per psychic power cast.
    4. Flank March: Only applies to the models in the formation that grants Flank March.

World Eaters

  1. We have developed a World Eater Warband datasheet.
  2. Angron
